Beds made of stuffing are generally composed of poly-fill (little pieces of foam). You’ll want to look for a “high-loft” bed, which means that it won’t get squished, or loose it’s ability to spring back over time. A bed with “baffle chambers” is recommended, since it makes sure that the fill remains evenly distributed throughout the dog bed.
Solid foam dog beds are the best choice in the case of large dog breeds and older dogs who are still healthy. For a dog with back or hip problems, or who has arthritis, you’ll need to look into medical-grade orthopedic foam dog beds. When choosing a foam mattress, look for firmness and density. Firmness refers to the hard or softness of the bed, and density is the springiness. The best quality foam dog bed will have higher density and firmness.
The last choice you’ll need to face is the cover for your dog bed. You’ll want one with the greatest ease for washing, since it will invariably get dirty in a surprisingly short span of time. For this reason, you’ll definitely want a cover that can be removed from the mattress, and that is 100% machine washable.
